Gtx 1660 Super Could Be On The Horizon: Nvidia May Jeopardize Its Own Sales This Time

Despite being the king of the high-end graphics card market, Nvidia seems to be afraid of the upcoming Navi architecture. We have already seen an example of it. Nvidia released the SUPER variants of RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080 days before the launch of RX 5700 series graphics cards. It may look like a coincidence, but Nvidia is known for jeopardizing AMD’s products.

According to recent rumors, Nvidia is developing another series of SUPER graphics cards but this time around GTX Turing graphics cards will get the SUPER refresh. Wccftech reports that these rumors align with the rumors of upcoming Navi 14 mid-range GPUs. Nvidia is making two GTX 16 series graphics card for the end of the year. One of these will be GTX 1660 SUPER, and the other one will be called GTX 1650Ti. With the release of GTX 16 series graphics cards, Nvidia has congested the already dense mid-range graphics card market. From a competitive point of view, the influx of these graphics card is better for the 1080p gaming community.

The SUPER variant will be better in terms of specifications but with an additional cost. It should be noted that we already have a GTX 1660Ti graphics card. The GTX 1660 SUPER could jeopardize the sales of the GTX 1660Ti along with the AMD graphics cards. The spec difference between both graphics cards according to the rumors is not much. It means the price difference will also be not much. We might be looking at a $250 price tag for the GTX 1660 SUPER. It should be clear that both GTX 1660 and GTX 1660 SUPER will coexist in the market with a $20 price difference.

The specification of the GTX 1660 SUPER coincides with both GTX 1660 and GTX 1660Ti making it the perfect middle device. The core count is similar to the GTX 1660, which means we will get 1408 CUDA cores, 80 TMUs, and 48 ROPs. The only significant difference is the use of GDDR6 memory instead of GDDR5 memory present in GTX 1660. The memory runs at 14Gbps, which means the total bandwidth will be 336 GB/s.

Lastly, we cannot talk about the performance difference, but the minimal spec difference would only result in a minimum performance difference. We still have to follow the news around the Navi 14 graphics cards too. One thing can be said with certainty, 2020 will be the year of mid-range graphics cards.
