Last night, rumors of a new Half-Life game began circulating across the web. Half-Life: Alyx, as it’s apparently called, is a new VR game from Valve and will be reportedly be announced at The Game Awards on December 12th.

Named after a character in the original series, Half-Life: Alyx is supposedly a successor to Half-Life 2. As evident from the title, the game seems to be Valve’s much-awaited ‘flagship VR game’. The game’s title was uncovered from a leaked transcript of an interview between The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, a Team Fortress 2 developer, and an unnamed individual.
In the transcript, Keighley says, “March 2020, ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ comin’ out”.
Of course, there are a lot of questions to be asked here. The biggest one that comes to mind is mouse and keyboard support for the game. An unnamed person in the interview states: “I mean we would love to be delivering a version of this that you could play with a mouse and a keyboard, but like as we said, it began as an exploration of VR.”
The upcoming Valve game is likely being developed with their own Index VR headset in mind, so it’s entirely possible that the main focus remains on VR.
Comments from play testers found in the transcript also paint a vivid picture.
“You can see their whole body– [sic]Respond to the situation. You know, panicking, dropping clips on the ground as they fumble their weapons ’cause a zombie’s in front of them, all these things, they’re just – it’s been really fun watching playtests.”
Any Half-Life news always has the gaming community in a frenzy, and Half-Life: Alyx is no different. While the leaks aren’t as accurate as one would hope, it won’t be long before Valve lifts the curtain. Unfortunately for die-hard fans, it doesn’t seem that their desires for Half-Life 3 will be sated any time soon.
